Costa Mesa in 2010 was a city in Southern California with a population of around 110,000 with a reputation for being diverse and ever evolving. Sam Herr, a war veteran and Julie Kibuishi, an aspiring fashion stylist were attending Orange Coast College. The two became close, platonic friends rather quickly. Sam, a loyal goof ball to his friends and Julie, vivacious, smart and dependable. When their parents couldn’t reach either of them one day in May 2010, they all became severely worried. Steven, Sam’s father made a horrific discovery at his son’s apartment – Julie had been murdered. But Sam was no where to be found. The crime didn’t make sense to any one who knew Sam. After days of searching, evidence led them to one of his neighbor’s an aspiring actor. When questioned, it seemed to be more of a performance by the neighbor rather than an interrogation. After 14 hours, detectives finally coaxed the truth out of this neighbor. Tune in to hear of Julie and Sam, and how their lives came to end so senselessly.

The anguish of not knowing. The questions that never end. Imagine losing your child — not to death, but to disappearance. No goodbyes. No answers. Just silence. That’s the reality Terry and Debbi Elvis have lived since December 2013 — the last time they spoke to their 20-year-old daughter, Heather. What followed was a nightmare. Heather had been involved with a man 17 years older — a married father of two, living a double life. Their brief affair spiraled into a years-long saga when his wife, Tammy, found out. And even though Heather had moved on, Tammy hadn’t. The harassment escalated. The threats continued. And then — Heather vanished. Though arrests were made, Heather has never been found. And her family is still left waiting — for justice, for closure, for answers. Join us for Part 2 of this two-part story as we discuss the arrest, trials and post-conviction relief efforts of those involved in Heather's disappearance.

Lyons, Nebraska in 1986 was a small town in the northeast part of the state, where everybody knew everyone. Crime was next to nonexistent, not even having their own local jail. It seemed a great place for Anna Marie Anton to restart her life. Recently divorced, 34 year old Anna relocated from her home in Milford, Iowa to Lyons, Nebraska. In December 1986, the peaceful way of life in Lyons was shattered when Anna was discovered missing by one of her neighbors. For 11 days people had no idea what happened to Anna, until her nude body, with two bullet wounds, was discovered in a remote field 20 miles from her home. Suspicion fell on the town’s police chief as he lived in the apartment above Anna and had tried to conceal his relationship with her. A thorough search of Anna’s apartment revealed a blood trail leading up to the police chief’s apartment door. Authorities issued a warrant for him…but the chief had fled. For 6 years he remained on the run until a TV show told of Anna Anton’s murder…and who was still wanted for the crime. Tune in to hear of Anna and how her killer was finally captured.

In Eastern Slavic lore, there are two fearsome creatures that are said to lurk in the forests and woods: Baba Yaga and The Leshy. Baba Yaga appears in many tales since 1755, although believed to be in spoken lore much earlier. She lives deep in the woods, in a house that walks on chicken legs, goat legs or ram horns, with a fence made of human bones and a hunger for secrets. She’s been called a witch, a cannibal, a guardian of ancient magic. Baba Yaga is older than memory and far more dangerous than a fairy tale. But to those brave—or foolish—enough to knock on her door, Baba Yaga might offer wisdom... or ruin. Similar to Baba Yaga, the Leshy is not inherently good or evil. Sometimes a protector. Sometimes a prankster. And sometimes... something much darker. The Leshy is the guardian of the forest, said to play tricks on those lost or disrespecting the forest. There are ways to protect yourself from the Leshy however it is still revered as a spirit no one wants to cross. These supernatural beings have haunted and fascinated generations with their dual and mischievous natures.

Long Island, New York—known for its scenic coastlines, quiet suburbs, and elite vacation spots like the Hamptons—is a place where life seems idyllic. But beneath the charm and beauty lies a disturbing truth: this region has long been stalked by darkness. Serial killers have left their mark here before… and one of the most chilling was a man named Robert Shulman. Between 1991 and 1995, Shulman lived in the quiet town of Hicksville with his brother. By day, he worked a steady job at the post office—just another ordinary man blending into an ordinary neighborhood. To outsiders, he seemed to be building a modest, uneventful life. But behind closed doors… a monster was lurking. What unfolded in those years would shock even the most hardened detectives. A trail of brutality, hidden in plain sight, was growing. And no one knew that the man sorting mail by day was committing horrors by night—acts so vile, so grotesque, they would leave a permanent scar on Long Island's history.

Life in Dallas, Texas in 2015 was marked by growth, diversity, and a booming economy. Home to popular sports teams, Dallas was thriving culturally. A bright, accomplished pediatric dentist in the Dallas area, Dr. Kendra Hatcher, was living her dream—helping children, a loving boyfriend and an upcoming romantic getaway. Unfortunately, this dream was cut short in a violent way. In the parking garage of her upscale apartment complex, Kendra was ambushed and shot in cold blood. But this wasn’t a random act of violence—it was a chilling murder-for-hire plot fueled by jealousy and obsession. The mastermind? A dental hygienist who saw Kendra as a threat to a love she couldn’t let go of. A borrowed car and a hired gunman, indicated every step was meticulously planned. After 2 accomplices were detained, the third was on the run. After a nationwide manhunt with this perpetrator making the FBI’s 10 most wanted list, investigators were able to unravel the deadly web of lies. How did this jealousy and obsession turn lethal?

Welcome to Part II of Little Known Hauntings in Rochester, NY. This time, we are going to tell the tales of Eliza of the Tracks, The Green Lantern Inn and The Manitou Road Demon. A woman named Eliza is said to haunt the railroad tracks which are no longer active between Rochester and Syracuse. Said to be a ghostly figure in hoop skirts, Eliza’s tale is one of betrayal and mistrust. The Green Lantern Inn in Fairport NY was a social hub through most of the early 20th century. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, it is rumored to be haunted by its original owner, Henry A. DeLand. A few paranormal groups have investigated the Inn, recording some mysterious happenstances. The Manitou Road Demon is said to haunt the 7.7 mile road in Greece NY. One woman had a narrow encounter with the demon, describing it as more malevolent than a beast. Tune in to hear these chilling tales in our local Rochester NY.
