Back in 2011, then 27-year-old, Michelina Lewandowska was living the life she had wanted. She had a wonderful three-year-old son and a partner who she loved so deeply; and he loved her just as much. Or so, she thought. But Michelina soon learned that her belief that he loved her as deeply as she loved him, couldn’t be further from the truth. Marcin Kasprzak, Michelina’s fiancé, had bound, gagged and tasered her before putting her in the trunk of a car to be driven to a remote area. But what happened next defies belief: Michelina was buried alive in a shallow grave – and left to die. But somehow, hidden beneath the dirt was a woman whose strength and determination allowed her to do the impossible; she survived. This is the story of a woman who refused to be silenced, even by the weight of the earth itself. Michelina’s story is one of terror, tragedy but also inspiration. This story is that of a love turned evil and the story of a woman who literally clawed her way out of the grave to take back her life. So, tune in for this shorter episode. This is not just true crime. This is survival. This is the story of the survival of Michelina Lewandowska.

Welcome to Part II of Little Known Hauntings in Rochester, NY. This time, we are going to tell the tales of Eliza of the Tracks, The Green Lantern Inn and The Manitou Road Demon. A woman named Eliza is said to haunt the railroad tracks which are no longer active between Rochester and Syracuse. Said to be a ghostly figure in hoop skirts, Eliza’s tale is one of betrayal and mistrust. The Green Lantern Inn in Fairport NY was a social hub through most of the early 20th century. Now on the National Register of Historic Places, it is rumored to be haunted by its original owner, Henry A. DeLand. A few paranormal groups have investigated the Inn, recording some mysterious happenstances. The Manitou Road Demon is said to haunt the 7.7 mile road in Greece NY. One woman had a narrow encounter with the demon, describing it as more malevolent than a beast. Tune in to hear these chilling tales in our local Rochester NY.

Deliverance is the belief that a person can be spiritually cleansed or freed from demonic oppression — and some Christians believe they have the authority through Christ to carry it out themselves. But what happens when that belief turns dangerous? In this episode, we examine the tragic 1993 case of Joan Vollmer, a woman suffering from hypomania and schizophrenia. After years of mental health struggles and failed treatments, Joan's husband, Ralph, became convinced her condition was the result of demonic influence. Without her knowledge, he arranged for members of their congregation to come to their home and perform a “deliverance.” What followed was a harrowing week of restraint, interrogation, and abuse — and ultimately, Joan's death. This story raises unsettling questions about faith, mental illness, and how spiritual intentions can lead to devastating outcomes. Sometimes, the real danger lies not in demons — but in those who believe they’re fighting them.

New Haven CT in 2009 was a mix of urban revival and challenges, with it being home to Yale University. New Haven was a hub for education, arts, and culture, with the university playing a major role in local economic stability. This prestigious university is where Annie Le (Lay) would attend to pursue a doctorate in pharmacology after receiving her undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester. In her third year at Yale, she was running a research lab, set to marry the love of her life on September 13, 2009. However, Annie went missing on September 8, 2009. She was last seen on security cameras entering the building where her lab was located , but was never seen exiting. Investigators searched everywhere in her lab for evidence, but it wasn’t until days later, when an expanded search was conducted did they know something horrible occurred. An undeniable scent caught their noses, confirming what they had only suspected. What they found was brutal and horrific, solidifying her family’s fears: the beautiful Annie would never walk down the aisle.

Funeral directors take an oath to be faithful to those who entrust them with the services whether that be cremation or burial of their loved ones. Funeral directors are people that we as a society automatically trust – we trust that they have our and our deceased loved one’s interests, hopes and wishes at heart. And for the overwhelming majority of funeral directors, that sentiment is true. But as with anything – there can always be a bad apple. Back in the 1980’s in Pasadena, California, the Lamb Funeral Home had been in operation for decades. Passed down through the Lamb family eventually put into the hands of Laurieanne Lamb-Sconce and her husband Jerry Sconce. They ran the business as well as Laurieanne’s father and grandfather before her. But eventually, Laurieanne and Jerry’s son David would get brought into the fold. He had a very different view on death and grief than his predecessors. In this profession he saw a business, an opportunity to make a significant amount of cash and with very minimal oversight. It was discovered that David had been working along side those he hired and even his parents to an extent to cremate more than one, sometimes dozens of bodies at one time in the same oven. Not only would he comingle ash, he would also have his employees fill the ovens by whatever means necessary – even if that meant by the breaking of the limbs. But he would never cremate the deceased prior to removing their jewelry, removing their fillings, removing their clothes and even harvesting their organs – all of these for sale. But he wouldn’t get away with it for long before people began to catch on.

Rochester, NY offers a blend of urban convenience and natural beauty. Home to the infamous Garbage Plate, Rochester is full of activities to do for each season: trails, parks, live music and festivals. The summers are usually spent down by one the beaches, like Durand Beach which is home to lore of the Lady in White. Sitting just across from the Durand Beach sits what locals call “The White lady’s castle”, said to be the home of the White Lady, which is just a small wall of stone and staircase. Despite the lore, this wall and staircase were actually a part of a pavilion. Due to wear and tear and the Great Depression, all that remains of the structure is the wall and staircase. There are many different versions of the Lady in White but all seem to focus on a woman who is wandering the area, searching for something or someone. Not too far from the White Lady’s castle rests the former Reunion Inn, now known as the Union Tavern. With a history dating all the way back to the 1850s, being used as a farm, in the underground railroad and a speakeasy, the reunion inn is said to be haunted by numerous spirits. Staff and the owners have had odd experiences such as disembodied whistling and being touched by invisible hands. Join us on as we explore these two smaller known haunted locations and the background of them.

In July of 1983, Jessica Lynne Carpenter was born to her parents Judy and Charlie. Jessica, one of three sisters, would grow to be outgoing, funny, charismatic, kind and loving. She was someone who enjoyed life and all of it’s precious moments and always tried to make people laugh. Knowing the type of kind heart that she possessed, it was never a thought in anyone’s mind that someone would want to hurt Jessica. But in August of 2000, that changed. Jessica lived in a home in Aiken, South Carolina and was enjoying summer break at home while her mother worked. When her mother, Judy returned home around 5:30/6PM she would walk into a scene that no mother should ever have to experience. After entering the home and not seeing Jessica, she called out for her, but she didn’t answer. She went into 17 year old Jessica’s bed room and found her lying on the floor. Her life had been brutally taken. Jessica’s mother immediately calls 911 – and shortly after police arrive a full scale investigation begins. Despite the investigation, the use of blood hounds and even community’s willingness to submit DNA samples, it would be almost 2 years before this horrific crime would be solved. This story reminds us that evil is everywhere – even sometimes lurking behind the curtain of safety of a small town.

Life in Perth, Australia, the capital of Western Australia, in the 1980s was a blend of laid-back suburban living and rapid development. The city was relatively isolated but growing, with a strong sense of community. The residents always had felt safe, with children playing outdoors and returning home when the street lights came on. However, that sense of safety was shattered in 1986. Women began to disappear randomly off the streets of Perth. Then in November, a young girl came charging into a corner store claiming she had been kidnapped and raped by a couple. Police canvas the house this brave girl led them to and arrested Catherine and David Birnie. When interviewed, the couple eventually confessed to 4 murders over the span of a month. The couple, separately, led detectives to the grave sites of Mary Nielson, Susannah Candy, Noelene Patterson and Denise Brown. What unraveled was a story of obsessiveness and dark fantasies. This will be a two part story, the first going over Catherine and David’s background, giving an insight into their psyche. Part two will be go over the stories of their victims, including the bravery and courage of the woman who escaped.

Randi Trimble was a devoted and loving wife, daughter and speech pathologist. Brian was her quiet, introverted and intelligent husband. After the couple married in September of 2000, they began their life in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania. With the area growing rapidly due to the area’s safety, sense of community and job opportunities, it was the perfect place for them to live and eventually one day start their family. But the those living near the couple, would learn that no matter how safe you think your neighborhood may be, that evil can happen anywhere. In January of 2003, after returning home from dinner plans, Brian Trimble found the body of his 28-year-old wife, Randi, lying on the cold garage floor in a pool of blood. In sheer panic, he called 911 but unfortunately, Randi didn’t survive. She had been stabbed a total of 27 times. With no forensic evidence, no witnesses and Brian with a rock solid alibi, investigators were left at a standstill. Until one day, they would learn of a plan created by Brian Trimble and his coworker and friend Blaine Norris to film their very own horror movie. And it wouldn’t be long before investigators learned that the two brought their horror movie to life. This episode shows us that evil is everywhere – even sometimes behind the scenes in what appears to be the most successful of marriages.
